Snooki’s pregnant

Does the Jersey Shore star have a baby on board?

The New York Post reports that Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, 24, is carrying her first child by boyfriend Jionni LaValle, and is roughly three months along.

Rumors that Snooki was expecting popped up earlier this month and she made the rounds denying it, saying specifically on Good Morning America that “no, I’m not pregnant.” That was Feb. 2.

Now, the Post says, she is doing what all good reality show stars do — cashing in on the big event. A source says Snooki plans to bankroll her mommy-to-be status into becoming “the next Kourtney Kardashian.”

Snooki will soon be starring in a Jersey Shore spinoff with her MTV co-star Jenni “J-Woww” Farley and this would certainly help bring in viewers.

Snooki’s rep tells Lifeline Live this morning, “I can only say at this time: No comment.”

Jennifer Garner’s baby name revealed

The latest addition to the family of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck has a name! If you thought the parents of Violet and Seraphina might go with something off the wall like many of their celebrity counterparts you, my friend, were dead wrong.

Jennifer Garner’s newborn baby has been given the tried and true name Samuel!

Ben Affleck broke the news of his first son’s name by posting the following message on his Facebook account:

“We are happy to announce on February 27, Jennifer gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Samuel Garner Affleck.”

Word the couple had welcomed their first son broke Tuesday, the day after his birth. “Our girls are working on names,” Jennifer Garner shared during her pregnancy. “At first they were definitely Disney. It was like, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse Affleck. And then they’ve moved on. Then it was Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Smee.”

The BabyCenter Names Finder lists Samuel as a Hebrew name meaning “asked of God.”

Personally, taking into consideration Violet and Seraphina’s names, I’d expected something a little more unique from the Garner-Affleck name generator. Can’t give them any flack for going with something that has stood the test of time though!

What is your reaction to Jennifer Garner’s baby name choice?

Mother given wrong baby to breastfeed

Midwife Jill Ashmore tried to persuade a student to keep quiet about the mistake after an inquiry was mounted at the Bassetlaw Hospital, Worksop, Notts, it was claimed.
The babies had been switched only hours after they were born on November 13, 2007, when they were taken away to be cared for while the mothers rested, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.
But ward staff later returned the wrong babies were returned to the mothers, known as Mother A and Mother B.
When the mix up was eventually noticed, Ashmore failed to record it happening, before trying to convince a student midwife not to "drop anybody in the s***".
She also told Mother A that her baby, Baby A, had not been fed, when in fact it had been breast fed by the other mother.
"These events occurred when the registrant was working as a midwife at the Bassetlaw Hospital,' said David Clarke, for the NMC.
"Two babies were born during the afternoon of the 13 November 2007.
"Over night both of the babies were having some trouble settling and were taken from their mothers, with the agreement of the mothers, to a different area where they were looked after by midwives and health care assistants.
"There was a mistake on their return - in fact there was two mistakes - as Baby B was returned to the Mother A, and Baby A was given to Mother B.
"When the mistake had been realised, they were recovered and given back to the correct mothers.'
"When the registrant was returning Baby A to Mother A, she told the mother that the baby had not been fed during the period they had been separated.
"It is alleged that the registrant told the mother this without determining if that was correct.
"As it turns out, the baby had been fed; breast fed by Mother B who at the time had thought she was feeding her own baby."
The panel heard that the blunder was reported and investigated by the hospital, at which point Ashmore told student midwife Claire Newton-Jones to cover up the blunder.
"During the course of the internal investigation of what had happened the registrant attempted to influence what a student midwife, who was present, was going to say to that internal investigation," Mr Clarke added.
Mr Clarke said that Ashmore told Ms Newton-Jone that she should not say anything about Mother B Breastfeeding the baby of Mother A, should say the bare minimum and should not "drop anybody in the s***".
Ashmore admits she failed to record the error in the mothers notes and failed to inform anyone at the time of the change over of one shift to another.
She had denied the rest of the charges, but is not attending the central London hearing.
If found guilty of misconduct she could faces being struck off.
The hearing continues

Leap-year babies mostly appreciate their Feb. 29 birthdate

Gearing up to celebrate your birthday on Feb. 29? Chances are you've been asked more than a few times, and will be asked again, why it shows up on the calendar only once every four years.

But even the most basic explanation — that an extra day is added every four years to help keep calendars in line with the seasons — is often met with "a look of confusion," says Amy Perez, a medical records specialist in Augusta, Ga. To some, "it seems like this foreign concept."
Perez, who will be 28 on Wednesday (that's 7 in leap years) and other "leapers," "leapsters," and "29ers" can thank Julius Caesar for their situation. He adopted the leap-day concept from the Egyptians after figuring out that the quadrennial addition of an extra day could make a precise calendar, says Yury Grabovsky, math professor at Temple University in Philadelphia. "Precision was very important, because if you planted seeds at the wrong time of year, you might have famine on your hands."
The chance of being born on leap day is about 1 in 1,461, says Raenell Dawn, co-founder with Peter Brouwer of The Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies (leapday.com), an online club that counts 9,000 members worldwide. The group says about 5 million people worldwide celebrate leap-day birthdays.
Views on leap birthdays run the gamut from awful to awesome, Dawn says: "There are families that will celebrate big time and those that won't even acknowledge (a birthday) until the leap day."
Katie Busch, 31 (her eighth leap-day birthday is Wednesday), says her paternal grandparents "were sticklers" about celebrating only every fourth year. "No leap year, no call, no cards, nothing," says Busch, of Pottstown, Pa. "They simply said, 'It's not your real birthday.' "
Having a leap-day birthday helped Perez learn to take a joke, she says. She recalls that more than once, when being "carded," she had to explain, "No, I don't have to wait until I turn 84 to drink."
It's not so funny, though, when computers aren't programmed to recognize her birthday. Perez can't use the automated test-results line at her doctor's office because it won't accept Feb. 29.
Marisa Wiktor, an anesthesiologist in Milwaukee, says that as a child, her parents let her choose her celebration date in "off years." She usually chose the 28th because "it was in the same month as when I was born," says Wiktor, 31.
She recently encouraged a friend, scheduled to deliver her baby by cesarean March 1, to consider delivering Feb. 29. Having a leap-day birthday is "always a conversation piece," Wiktor says. "If you have nothing else to talk about, you can always say, 'I just turned 8.' "

Dog Kills Baby In Airdrie, Alberta

AIRDRIE, Alta. - Police say a newborn baby boy died after a family dog with no previous history of attacks turned on the child inside the family's home.

RCMP said the infant was attacked Wednesday morning at the house in Airdrie, a bedroom community just north of Calgary, and died that night in hospital.

Insp. Tony Hamori called the attack an "unimaginable event." He said the family also has a 2 1/2-year-old son and has never had any problems with the husky.

"There is no history whatsoever of any issues with this particular dog," Hamori said at a news conference Thursday. "It's just a very tragic accident."

Hamori wouldn't release any details of the attack out of concern for the family. He did say one of the parents was at home with the child at the time.

"We do not feel there's anything criminal in nature. No charges are being considered at this point in time," he said. "I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the family for the loss of their child."

Neighbours identified the two-storey grey house where the attack happened. It sits on a quiet street in the Kingsland area of the community. There's a park a few doors down. Someone inside the home angrily turned away media.

Erica Wollen, down the street, has two sons of her own. She said the attack made her think about the danger her kids might have been in playing at the park. A lot of people in the neighbourhood leave their dogs off-leash, she said.

"Its horrible," Wollen said. "I can't even imagine the devastation and for it to be their own animal. It would be just devastating because I am sure they trusted their own dog."

Neighbours said the family ran a dog mushing business. The business website says the company sells dog sledding supplies. The website said the family had adopted four huskies. Police said there was only one dog in the home at the time.

Wollen said the family would sometimes hook dog sleds up in front of their house and it was really fun for people in the neighbourhood.

The dog that attacked is being quarantined until the family and bylaw officers decide whether it should be destroyed.

"We want to do the right thing for the family," said Darryl Poburan, manager of municipal enforcement in Airdrie. "We want to do the right thing for the dog.

"I know it freaks me out. It's not something you like to see."

Counselling was being offered to the RCMP officers who attended the scene.

Barbara Walmer is an animal behaviour expert with the Calgary Humane Society. She says the humane society, along with the Calgary Health region, offers a course for parents with a new baby and a dog.

"It's about being able to train and set the animals up for success prior to the baby coming home and then managing the situation when the baby comes home," she said Thursday.

"One of the big things is supervision — always supervise, if you're not supervising or the baby is napping, close the door, use a video camera or video cam to be able monitor the baby instead of allowing the animal to have access to the child when no one is there."

She says there isn't much research into this type of attack because it is so rare, but says it could be a predatory or an arousal/excitement situation. Walmer says in her 10 years in her position, this is the first time she's been aware of such an attack.

Her advice is to never leave a baby or young child alone with a dog.

"You just don't want to leave it to chance that the dog basically doesn't have the person to be able to help make behaviour decisions."

In 2010, a husky killed a three-week-old baby girl as she sat strapped in her car seat on the floor of a home in Quebec.

Her 17-year-old mother was allegedly outside having a cigarette when the dog attacked. She was charged with manslaughter but has yet to go to trial.

Jaimie Rosteski owns a dog-sitting business in Airdrie and was walking an animal in the neighbourhood where the attack happened. She has a two-year-old son, Noah, and a husky-cross at home.

She said any dog can become jealous of newborns.

"Any dog can be aggressive," she said. "I hate breed profiling. We have about 600-plus clients and the only dog that I've ever had a problem with is a Chihuahua.

"Sometimes things happen. A dog is essentially a wild animal at heart and you just never know."

She offered her sympathies to the family.

"It's awful that they lost their little boy and it's also awful for their dog. It's hard on everybody. It's a really terrible thing for them to have to go through."

15-minute-old newborn gets pacemaker for heart

SAN FRANCISCO – The name Jaya in Hindi means victorious. And little Jaya Maharaj was just that, when she became one of the smallest recipients of a pacemaker when she was just 15 minutes old.

A team of doctors at Stanford University's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital determined the girl born nine weeks premature had only hours to live if they did not perform the surgery.
Jaya, who was diagnosed in the womb with a severe heart ailment, entered the world with a heart rate of 45 beats per minute. A health newborn heartbeat is 120 to 150 beats per minute.
"The only way to save this baby was to deliver the baby right away and then the pacemaker," said Dr. Katsuhide Maeda, the surgeon whose steady hand stitched the pacemaker's electrical leads to Jaya's walnut-sized heart. Stanford announced details of the operation this week.
During a routine prenatal visit, doctors told Leanne Maharaj, 26, and Kamneel Maharaj, 31, that their first child's heart rate was dangerously low. They learned that their daughter suffered from congenital heart block, in which the mother's immune system mistakenly attacks the nerve fibers that cause the fetus' heart to beat.
The prognosis was grim: Doctors would have to induce labor and force the baby to be born as early as possible to correct the ailment before her heart failed. But Jaya grew and gained weight as her parents waited, giving them hope.
"We were worried, but at the same time we were hopeful that she was fighting inside and doing the best she can," said Kamneel Maharaj, an information technology manager in Silicon Valley.
Dr. Valerie Chock, the neonatologist who counseled the couple, said determining when the baby should be born involves a delicate set of calculations. The baby should be delivered as soon as possible while still allowing her to gestate so her organs develop enough to support life outside the womb.
"Unfortunately, a lot of babies in this position don't even survive childbirth," Chock said.
The doctors settled on 31 weeks as the delivery date. About team of about 20 assembled to handle the complex procedure in which both speed and caution were essential.
The delivery of the 3.5-pound baby went smoothly. But Jaya's heart was beating so slowly that surgeon Maeda decided to open her chest immediately to perform the operation.
Typically in such cases, a surgeon would connect wires attached to a pacemaker outside the body then perform a second surgery weeks later to install a permanent device. Maeda decided to tackle the more difficult challenge of inserting the permanent pacemaker immediately to avoid the second surgery. The whole process took about an hour.
The current pacemaker should last Jaya about 10 years, Maeda said.
Dr. Michael Artman, the chief pediatrician at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and a neonatal cardiologist not connected to the Stanford operation, described the surgery as an impressive accomplishment that could encourage other children's hospitals to undertake similar efforts.
"What really distinguishes this is just the fragility of this premature baby and the condition in which this baby was born," Artman said. He said that while inserting a pacemaker is not itself the most technically challenging kind of surgery, the coordination of the large team needed to pull off the entire procedure poses a major challenge.
Today, at a little less than three months old, Jaya weighs more than 8 pounds and is thriving.
"Whenever we were worried, she would kick from inside and say, 'I'm here; I'm alive!'" Kamneel Maharaj said. "We thought maybe she was trying to tell us that everything was OK, so we were always hopeful."

Married or not you should read this...

“When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I’ve got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn’t know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly. She didn’t seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn’t talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn’t love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Jane so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn’t have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Jane. When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn’t want anything from me, but needed a month’s notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month’s time and she didn’t want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day. She requested that every day for the month’s duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Jane about my wife’s divorce conditions. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn’t had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mommy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don’t tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn’t looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me. On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn’t tell Jane about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.

Suddenly it hit me… she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it’s time to carry mom out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn’t noticed that our life lacked intimacy. I drove to office…. jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind…I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Jane, I said, I won’t divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn’t value the details of our lives, not because we didn’t love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart. Jane seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away. At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I’ll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed -dead. My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push through with the divorce.— At least, in the eyes of our son—- I’m a loving husband….

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves.

So find time to be your spouse’s friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!

If you don’t share this, nothing will happen to you.

If you do, you just might save a marriage. Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up

EMTs deliver Valentine's Day baby in rescue truck

Four Warren EMTs had a Valentine’s Day they won’t soon forget, when they helped a Warren woman give birth in the back of an ambulance pulled over on the Wampanoag Trail.

It was a quiet morning in Warren when the call came in around 10 a.m. from a Davis Street woman, 28.

“She said her contractions were three to five minutes apart, so I knew we didn’t have much time,” said Fire Chief Al Galinelli.

The chief hopped in his truck and headed to the house, as did EMTS Matt Primiano, Russ Silviera, Sue Annarummo and rescue driver Charles Sweet.

When they arrived, the woman told Chief Galinelli she wanted to go to Newport Hospital. But the chief knew they’d never make it.

“I thought it’d be be tight getting to Women and Infants” in Providence, he said. As it turned out, he was way off.

Dismissing Newport Hospital, the EMTs loaded the woman into the rescue truck and took off through Barrington. By the time they got to the Wampanoag Trail, the woman’s screams were coming so fast that the chief knew the birth wasn’t far off. By the time Mr. Sweet got to the WPRO radio station, they knew they had to pull over — the baby was coming.

“We were bouncing around so much in the back that we had to pull over so we wouldn’t be bouncing when the baby came,” said the chief.

It didn’t take long. At precisely 10:11 a.m. about a minute after they pulled over, the woman delivered the baby, a healthy girl. Chief Galinelli later found out she weighed seven pounds, eight ounces. They gave her oxygen, suctioned her off and covered her in blankets before starting the rescue back up and driving her and her mother at Women and Infants hospital.

Though Chief Galinelli has delivered three babies over the years, it was the first time for his crew. His volunteers and EMTs train for such occasions but never know if they’ll use the knowledge; in this case, they did and everything worked out perfectly, he said.

“They really did a great job, kept their composure,” said the chief. “I was like the doctor overseeing everything, but they did all the work. They never had a problem.”

By noon or so, they were back in Warren, and the chief took his four smiling crew members out to lunch at the Crossroads Pub to celebrate. It didn’t last long, though. Just after they started to eat, a rescue call came in, and two had to run out, lunches mostly uneaten.

Babies understand words from 6 months old, scientists say

Babies understand basic words at a much earlier age than previously thought, US scientists claimed.
University of Pennsylvania researchers found that infants aged between six and nine months can grasp the meaning of common words months before they can speak them.
It was widely believed that babies can comprehend elements of the sounds of their native language but not their meaning.
In the first demonstration that babies can understand such words, the researchers tested 33 six- to nine-month-old babies in controlled conditions.
The study involved showing the babies a screen with images of two objects and tracking their eye movements when a parent asked them about one of the objects, such as "Where is the apple?"
The results, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that the babies were more likely to fix their gaze on the correct picture, indicating that they understood that the word was associated with the appropriate object.
"There had been a few demonstrations of understanding before, involving words like mommy and daddy," lead researcher Dr. Daniel Swingley said. "Our study is different in looking at more generic words, words that refer to categories."
Swingley added, "I think this study presents a great message to parents: You can talk to your babies, and they're going to understand a bit of what you're saying. They're not going to give us back witty repartee, but they understand some of it. And the more they know, the more they can build on what they know."

Couple arrested after falling asleep in stolen car with baby

A man and woman from New York burglarized a home and fell asleep in a stolen car with a baby in the back seat, police said.

Amy Rice, 27, and William Swayze, 33, were jailed Monday on charges including theft, receiving stolen property and providing false identification to police. A judge set bond at $10,000 for Rice and $25,000 for Swayze, court records show.

Avalon police officers said they found a 2011 Buick Lucerne with a Pennsylvania license plate and New York registration stickers parked on California Avenue about 2:30 a.m. They said Swayze was asleep in the driver's seat, Rice was sleeping in the passenger seat and their 3-month-old son was strapped into a car seat.

The couple stole the car from Rice's grandmother, police said. Swayze told police he stole the license plate from Wright Automotive in Wexford and replaced the New York plate at Ross Park Mall several days earlier. The couple had jewelry, phone chargers and checkbooks that were reported stolen in a McCandless house burglary on Wednesday, police said.

Doctors at Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville released the infant to the custody of the Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families after an evaluation.

Mom tells of delivering baby in car traveling at 80mph

A mom who delivered her own baby at high speed on a busy highway in Australia has revealed the dramatic moments that saved the newborn's life.
Mel Sharpe, of southeast Queensland, was in the front passenger seat of her vehicle -- racing at 80mph (130kph) to the hospital on the Sunshine Coast -- when the baby's head crowned.
As she reached down to check, Sharpe discovered the umbilical cord was wrapped twice around the emerging infant's neck. Umbilical cord strangulation is a potentially fatal complication of birth and can also lead to disability.
"When the head came out I felt to make sure there was nothing around his neck because our first son had this issue when he was born," she said. "There was a lot of urgency to get it off.
"I could feel two strands of cord wrapped around his neck. I knew there were two because when I grabbed the cord I could fit my thumb between the two strands."
A professional firefighter, Sharpe drew on her ingrained sense of calm in an emergency and, unable to see what she was doing, managed to flick both cords over the baby's head, with her fiance Adam Geary encouraging her from the driver's seat.
As she cuddled her baby boy, Xavier Aston Geary, Sharpe paused to reflect on how fortunate they were.
"It was very scary because you don't know what could happen," she said. "It had the potential it could have gone the opposite way -- good or bad. I hate to think what the outcome could have been."
The drama did not end when the newborn was free of the cords, however. Sharpe had accidentally snapped the umbilical cord, cutting off the baby's lifeline.
Her fiance had to veer into a roadside gas station, just as Xavier arrived at 3:33am local time, with the couple still some 7.5 miles (12km) from the hospital.

Induced Labor Lets Dying Texas Man See Daughter

Diane Aulger was about two weeks from her delivery date when she and her husband decided there was no time to wait: Mark Aulger had only days to live, and he wanted to see his child.

Diane Aulger had her labor induced and gave birth to their daughter Jan. 18. When tiny Savannah was placed in his arms, Mark Aulger "cried, and he just looked very sad," his wife said. He died five days later from complications related to his cancer treatment.

The 52-year-old Texas man was diagnosed with colon cancer in April. He had surgery and, as a precaution, six months of chemotherapy, Diane Aulger said. With no signs of cancer showing up in follow up tests, the treatment seemed successful.

Then in November, Mark Aulger began having trouble breathing. By Jan. 3, he was sick enough to go to the emergency room. His wife said he was told the chemotherapy had caused him to develop pulmonary fibrosis, which causes scarring and thickening in the lungs.

Initially, the Aulgers were hopeful.

"He thought he'd be coming home in a few days with an oxygen tank," said Diane Aulger, who lives in The Colony, about 25 miles north of Dallas.

But on Jan. 16, the doctor delivered more bad news: Mark Aulger's condition was fatal. When Diane Aulger asked how long her husband had, the response was a sobering five or six days.

"Mark said, 'I'd like to see the baby,'" the 31-year-old mother told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Their baby was due Jan. 29, and Diane Aulger had planned a natural childbirth, but when the doctor suggested an induced labor, she immediately agreed. She was already experiencing pre-labor symptoms, and they scheduled the birth for Jan. 18.

Hospital staff arranged for the Aulgers to share a large labor and delivery room.

"Our beds were side by side," Diane Aulger said.

Mark Aulger held his daughter for about 45 minutes after she was born. For the next couple of days, though, he was so tired he was only able to hold her a couple of times for a minute or so. She said he slipped into a coma on Jan. 21 and died two days later.

"I brought her home the night before he fell into the coma. It was just me and Savannah when he passed away," Diane Aulger said.

Along with Savannah, the Aulgers have two other children, ages 10 and 7. Diane Aulger also has a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old.

With her family's story getting much media attention in recent days, Diane Aulger said she's been heartened by the nice comments she's received from people.

She plans to blanket her home with pictures of her husband and said her children are already doing a good job of keeping his memory alive by talking about him.

"We're living day-to-day as if dad's still here," she said. "We know dad is here with us. They talk to dad. Mark was a very funny, funny dad."

Couple Lets Facebook Poll Decide Their Baby’s Name

When a couple finds out they're having a baby, they usually start coming up with a list of names. Some people ask family and friends, others surf the Internet,
Couple lets people on Facebook choose their baby's name
some people turn to Hollywood and pop culture for the trendiest names. One couple is bucking the usual trends by getting their baby name from Facebook. A couple in Illinois decided on the name Cooper for their soon-to-arrive baby boy. However, when their doctor revealed they were actually having a girl, Dave and Lindsey Meske decided to use Facebook to name their baby. Last fall, the Meskes launched an online poll titled, "Name My Child" in which family, friends, and even strangers could weigh in on a name for the baby. The poll included four names that the couple had narrowed the choices down to: Addilyne, Madelyn, Emily, or McKenna. So why did the couple choose social media to help them with such an important task? Between the two of them, they could not agree on a name. Dave said watching the poll change every day was addicting and that he checked it nonstop. He even compared it to "watching the stock market ticker." So which name won? Madelyn Rae Meske was born January 31. "Madelyn" edged out "Emily" by just 45 votes, receiving 1,310 votes. "McKenna" came in third, and "Addilyne" received the least number of votes.

Stranger Danger training is a must for all kids!

Brave 7-year-old struggled free after calling upon 'stranger danger' tactics she learned at school

Shocking CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a convicted killer allegedly tried to kidnap a young girl at a department store in the US.

Brittany Baxter, 7, was grabbed by the man at a Walmart in Bremen, Georgia yesterday.

But the sharp youngster managed to free herself from the hold of Thomas A Woods - on parole for voluntary manslaughter - after she put into practice ‘stranger danger ‘lessons she had learned at school.

Brave Brittany said: “I was looking at princess and fairy stuff.

“I tried to kick as hard as I could. You try to get away and tell somebody you trust.”

Her mum Georgeann added: “She said that a man had tried to kidnap her.

“He had picked her up his hand over her mouth, but she was kicking and screaming. He then dropped her and ran out.”

The security recording shows a man carrying Brittany away down an aisle before she struggles out of his grasp.

Local police were able to trace Woods’ car after the number plate was also captured on CCTV.

The 25-year-old reportedly denied the charge of attempted kidnapping as he spoke to reporters while being led into jail.

Police chief Keith Pesnell admitted that he had been shaken by the dramatic footage.

He said: “It's chilling to know how quick something can happen.

“It actually sent chills up me when I saw that.”

Robert Downey Jr. and Wife Welcome Baby Boy

Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan have welcomed a son!
Exton Elias was born Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. People.com reports that the babe was 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and 20 inches long. Downey has an older son, Indio, 18, from a previous marriage.
According to People.com, Susan was a tad upset when Downey shared the sex of the baby on national television last summer.
“I could never really stay mad at him, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn’t something we planned to reveal,” she said. As a result, Downey says he was extra careful to keep his lips zipped about the couple’s name pick before the baby arrived.

Fla. woman with 2 uteruses delivers twins

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a Florida woman with a rare medical condition has delivered twins -- one from each of her two uteruses.

The St. Petersburg Times (http://bit.ly/pYIPl0 ) reports Andreea Barbosa and her husband, Miguel, conceived the twins without reproductive medicine. Nathan and Natalie Barbosa were born Sept. 15 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. They join 2-year-old sister, Izabella.
The newspaper says Barbosa's obstetrician, Dr. Patricia St. John, placed the odds of such a pregnancy at 1 in about 5 million. The doctor explained that two eggs had to be released and fertilized at the same time in each uterus.
Barbosa's condition is called uterus didelphys. She says it was diagnosed four years ago.
St. John says Barbosa's pregnancy was perfect and the twins were born via C-section at 36 weeks.

Mother Tries To Convince Police She Left Kids Because Of Medical Issue

Should the police let her off the hook? As a mother how easily do you feel this could happen?

DENVER (CBS4) – A Thornton mother is trying to convince police that a medical condition is the reason she left her two young children alone for hours and that she is a good parent.

Sarah Hatfield told CBS4 that she was hoping to be able to go home Wednesday evening. She has been meeting with Thornton police and Social Services to see if that will be allowed.

Hatfield, 25, left her children in her parked car at a Thornton gas station Saturday morning. Ten hours later and 13 miles away Hatfield says she found herself wandering confused at East Colfax Avenue and Colorado Boulevard where she was arrested.

Hatfield said doctors suspect she had an episode of amnesia tied to her migraine headaches. Doctors at Denver Health Medical Center, where she was examined, say it is indeed a real condition that can cause unusual behavior and memory loss. Hatfield said it’s the only thing that could explain why she left her children, her keys, her wallet and her cellphone in the car and disappeared.

The picture Hatfield’s family and husband describe is one of a smitten mother who adores her two little boys.

“They are the best, they are the world. So they are 2 and 4; they are a joy,” Hatfield said.

After 2 days in the hospital and a night in jail, Hatfield seems exhausted and horrified that she left her children, but she said she remembers nothing.

“It was scary. Everything was scary at first. I didn’t know what was going on,” Hatfield said. “I remember going to the gas station, and I pulled into the gas station and waited in line to get gas, and that was it. That was the last thing I remember that day.”

She doesn’t know how she got to Colfax and Colorado.

“I remember it being dark and walking down the street,” she said.

Hatfield’s husband, Matt, said they are sure police will work with doctors to realize that it is a medical, not a criminal case.

“She doesn’t have a criminal history,” Matt Hatfield said. “She’s a loving mother.”

“The research says it’s a one-time thing for most people. It says it’s like a 6 percent chance of it happening again,” Hatfield said.

Hatfield talked with her 4-year-old son by phone and he had a message for her.

“I just let him know I loved them and that I missed them. Jamie, all he would say is that I lost him. It’s, ‘Mommy, you lost me,’ that’s all he would say,” she said.

Hilarious and so true!!
